Plenty of good news....

June 10, 2002

I'm back in South Bend, starting to get over the dreadful cold I caught in Florida, and have had a much better day than I expected. Feeling better helps, and my first day of Latin went great. Today was mostly review, because as little as I learned of Latin when I played around with the language for a few weeks four years ago, I haven't forgotten much of it at all. That might last for the rest of this week, maybe two weeks, and it should help me ease in. Furthermore the class is from 9-1:30 four days a week, instead of from 9-3, like I thought it would be. Makes it easier to work, which reminds me...

I've also been offered a job. It's for Traditio, the summer program I was in last summer here at Notre Dame. It's a program for undergraduate Christian students of any discipline who are interested in learning about the Christian tradition by reading primary texts from the beginning of the Christian era through the 16th century. I'll be an assistant to the director, making sure all the details of her planning get executed on time, and be taking care of the liturgical needs of the program (whatever I decide those are) on the side. The amazing thing is, they're paying me $12.50 an hour, 15 hours a week, for 6 weeks, which is way more than I would have expected to make for such a temporary position. All the office time should be during the day, too, while Matt's still at work, which I'm happy about. Even better, making the program better than it was last year is something I actually care about, and although my effect on the program will be minimal, at least I hope it won't be negligible.

The last bit of good news is clearly that our internet is working again. Our service person was supposed to come between 3 and 5 today; I got a call from him about 2:15 saying that he had come by at 11:30 and fixed it. He just wanted me to tell him whether the computer was working now. He came 4 hours before the appointment - I'm impressed. Our cell phone works now too, because I called to get it reprogrammed today for the new area code. I feel connected again, and that's a good feeling.
