Visitation

Sept. 14, 2004

My mother, grandmother, and sister Sarah came to visit to evade hurricane Ivan. Of course, the hurricane was much slower than expected and veered toward the west, so there was actually no danger. Nevertheless, it was nice to see parts of my family again, since I hadn't seen them since Christmas. They are flying back early tomorrow morning, just in time to receive the hurricane if it heads towards Tampa Bay. This looks unlikely, as Ivan is currently on course to smack New Orleans or Alabama.

I have the papers for my qualifying exam. One uses principal component analysis to understand what happens when one composes network flows onto links. The other explores various bandwidth measurement tools. Neither seems unreasonably difficult. In fact, I'm pleased with both my paper selection and my committee. I'm confident that I can pass the exam.
