To Zanarkand

July 2, 2002

A friend of mine, Clayton, left town for a month in order to get married and go on his honeymoon. In exchange for taking care of his mail, plants, etc, I borrowed his PlayStation 2. This is a great arrangement for me, since there are few games I'm really interested in playing on that system, and if I get them all in this month, then I will have satisfied by gaming thirst without plunking down any cash for a system myself.

Foremost among these PS2-exclusive games is Final Fantasy X. I played a good bit of this game over Christmas break on my cousin's PS2, and have been itching to go back and finish it since. Now, with Clayton's PS2, I have my chance. The only problem is he doesn't own the game, so I have to beat as much of it as I can on as few rentals as possible. After devoting my entire weekend to the quest, I'm about 30 hours into the game, foregoing all side quests, chocobo races, and other distractions. I'm still not sure how close I am to actually completing it.

So far, I'm pleased with the game. It's probably the best FF since FF6. I'm glad Square finally pulled off a good one, after the abysmal failure of 8 and the mediocre 9.

Other than that, I've noticed that my new session tracking feature is becoming a lot less interesting over time. I've got >500 sessions logged there now, the majority of which are quick hits to either Evan's page or mine. I need to implement some sort of filter that highlights "interesting" sessions, such as searches, comments, or multiple page visits. I don't think I'll get around to that until after Thursday.
