Supernatural Powers!

Feb. 3, 2002

In accordance with the dop charter, I'm answering the theme post. This one had something to do with sex.

Choosing from flight, invisibility, strength, and x-ray vision is tough. I can rule out x-ray vision, since that doesn't really seem that useful. I mean, Superman has it, but how often does he use it, really? Not very. Out of the remaining 3, I would probably go with flight, just because I really like the window seat when I fly cross-country, and this way I could have that view any time I wanted, rather than just when I pay the ticket price.

Now, would I rather have telepathy than all four? No, unless i could use that telepathy to put thoughts in other people's heads. That would be more useful. Then I could stop people from thinking some of the crap they tend to think. For example, I was listening to some talk radio station the other night and the two guys were talking about terrorists. The one guy says, "Can you imagine the thousands of al Qaeda trained terrorists out there? Just waiting for the right time to strike? It just gives me the chills?" And the other guy says, "I know. And you can't stop them if they are willing to die."

<rant>What the hell is that about? If you want two examples of exactly the type of fear that the terrorists are trying to put into people, that is it. These two guys are scared shitless of *1000s* of supposedly unstoppable terrorists all over the world! What the **** is that? You can stop people even if they are willing to die? You just catch them before they do it? People can't blow things up from in jail! Don't you realize that by saying these kinds of things on the *radio* that you are spreading your fear to 10s of 1000s of other people! Why are you spreading fear? Hope is what these people need, not your spineless verbal sewage!</rant>

So, if telepathy included the ability to change thoughts like those, then I would take it, otherwise, keep the first four.

"Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration."

Finally, if I had the choice of any superpower I wanted, I would probably want some crazy thing like probability manipulation or some other such exotic power. But if limited to the more mundane powers, I would have to take teleportation. It would be just as good as flight and invisibility, and more useful on top of that. Plus, I could get a job with FedEx doing Super-Ultra Express delivery."
