"I go to extremes"

Jan. 9, 2002

Since stories about Jason Braswell are always amusing, I decided to write one of those.

My freshman year of college, I was roommates with Jason Braswell. He is now and was then a very large person. Well muscled. Anyway, Spring semester we had an early morning physics class together. Despite the fact that it was way too early in the morning and I didn't pay any attention to the professor (opting for the crossword puzzle instead), I never missed a class. This had something to do with the fact that Kim was in it. :)

Every day, I would get home from this oh-too-early physics lecture and find Jason still asleep in bed, no doubt due to his late-night Highlander-watching. Partly because living in such close quarters for so long had made me cranky, partly because I was frustrated that he got to sleep when I was going to class, and partly because I had temporarily given up video games, I would immediately start playing mp3s loudly and obnoxiously to wake him up. My favorite song for this purpose was the Billy Joel hit, "I Go to Extremes." Thinking back on those days, I realize what an appropriate song it was, given that Jason is in all ways an extreme person.

Listening to that song now reminds me of those innocent college freshmen days, playing Quake and eating Tostitos with the hottest salsa I could find, washing it all down with a Coke. I called this "lunch."
