New version

Jan. 30, 2002

Lately, I've been working on the new version of Lumberjack. There are a number of features I'd like to add, but first I need to fix a bunch of bugs. For example: I've been working on installing it on my home machine so that I can test faster and so I won't screw up the working version. That's the problem. I'm working on installing it. Its not easy to do. A lot of things I set up manually on the raq, and I want them to be automatic now.

One thing that motivates me to work on this project is the increased number of hits I've been getting on my demo page. It appears some people are interested in using it besides, kim, evan, and myself.
Nothing motivates an OSS developer more than knowing people want his product.

I've planned all along to have pluggable filters built into Lumberjack that parse your posts and edit them in some way. I think it would be really fun to have one that picks out keywords and changes them into links to whatever website google spits out when you hit "I feel Lucky."

Another thing that would be nice is an easier way to edit posts when you make a mistake. And a "preview" button to show you what its going to look like before you actually add it to the database. All in good time.

In other news, it snowed a lot today. Its about time. We've been in 40+ temperatures for two weeks and the miniscule amount of snow we got prior to that has been long gone. Today we got 4+ inches, and its still going. Fun.
