Neverwinter Nights

July 16, 2002

I spent Sunday evening playing Neverwinter Nights online with Kim and a bunch of friends from Florida (Eric O., Dave H., Dave's brother). I'm lucky enough to have a dedicated linux server sitting in my apartment, so setting up wasn't all that difficult. Anyone is welcome to join whenever I have it running, although I do not advertise it on Gamespy. The address is belcher.homeftp.net. Next month when I have more upstream bandwidth, I'm going to try and make it a more permanent game, and perhaps put together my own custom world for people to explore.

I'm playing as a Druid with a near-unpronouncable randomly generated elvish name. I've got a pet bear whose name is a bit more pronouncable: Mali. The game is great fun, and gets my recommendation to anyone who enjoys RPGs in particular or good PC Gaming in general. If you are running a dedicated server, you may want to put an entry in your host file redirecting connections to the NWN Master Server (which checks to make sure everyone is running a valid CD Key, among other things) to your local box. The domain name of that server is nwmaster.bioware.com.
