I installed Mandrake Linux on Kim's computer today. I'm running Gnome on mine, but I was anxious to try out the other leading desktop manager, KDE. I tried it for about ten minutes on my machine, but my IDE, eclipse, didn't work properly, so I promptly gave that up. Now that I've had a little more experience with the environment, I see what a nice experience it is. KDE is very clean and nicely integrated. Linux has certainly come a long way on the desktop since I last tried out Red Hat 4 years ago. If it weren't for DirectX-powered video games and certain file-transfer programs (cough) I don't think I would have any use for Windows at all.
