Guinea pig update

Jan. 12, 2005

I have a pet Guinea pig named Pippin. He's small for a pig, but he's very playful and loves carrots, apples, and red lettuce. Before we left for Christmas vacation, he came down with a vitamin C deficiency. We didn't notice at first, since we were busy with finals and other end of the semester activities, but he wasn't eating as much as he used to. Our good friend Erin took care of him while we were away and he has gained a lot of weight, although he still won't eat his normal food. A couple of times a day, we have to hand feed him by grinding up his pellets, mixing them with water, and putting them in a feeding tube.

As a side-effect of the scurvy (does this qualify Pippin as a pirate?) he's lost control of his back legs, so he doesn't move around as much as he used to.

It's pretty sad. Poor little pig.
