Episode 2

May 16, 2002

We went to see Episode 2 last night. It was a blast. The crowd was very excited. The theater manager wouldn't let me bring my lightsaber inside, however. The entire line got a laugh though as he yelled, "No weapons of any kind!" Also, a good way to tell if you are at a movie with nerd appeal is if there are guys in the audience playing Magic: The Gathering before the show.

I need to see Episode 2 a few more times before I compare it with the other films, but I can at least say that it is *much* better than Episode 1. And I liked Episode 1. Several reviews complained about the dialog during the love scenes. It was a little campy, but no more than what was going on between Han Solo and Princess Leia in the original films. The action sequences were breathtaking. The lightsaber fights were excellent. Basically, the whole movie is a cross between a love story and Star Wars fanboy madness. Oh, and the visual style at the beginning is just like Blade Runner.
