Civ 3

Nov. 15, 2001

Right now, I'm installing Civilization 3. I've bought every one of Sid Meier's civ-like games so far. Civ 1,2,3 and SMAC. Can't wait until this one is done installing so I can try it out. While I was at EB, I saw several other games I was tempted to by instead/as well. One was Wizardry 8, but I didn't see myself spending the 100+ hours it would take to beat right away, especially since I'm still working on Arcanum and Fallout Tactics (both pending new computer, since they are too slow to play in my current state.) Also, they had the "Hot Date" expansion to The Sims. That looks like the most ambitious expansion yet.

One interesting thing: there were several Xboxes in the store, which I could have just picked up and bought right then. It seems the bundling idea worked out pretty well, if MS's idea was to limit sales only to those people who wanted to shell out big bucks for one. It certainly has killed the eBay market for them. I mean, seriously, the new computer I'm buying is only running me $650 + tax. This new console is almost that much once you figure in the required bundle purchases.

I think I offended the EB retail guy. When he told me they had Xboxes in stock, I joked that I should buy one just to sell on eBay. He thought I was serious, and started going on about how I couldn't recover my bundle price, etc. I guess dead pan doesn't work on everyone. Reselling limited run consoles on eBay always seemed a little shady to me, since the retailers are required to sell them at a certain price. Its sort of like ticket scalping.
