Back from the Dead

Dec. 8, 2001

Excite@Home died last week, and with it my Internet connection. Today, AT&T finished moving over all the old @Home subscribers to their new network, and me with it. So, finally I get to post again. A lot of stuff happens in a week, so this is likely to be a long post.

First, an update on the computer situation. The new power supply, while it was probably needed, didn't really help things. It looks like I have a bad processor. So, I'm sending the thing back on Monday and hopefully I'll get a new one. In the meantime, I installed linux on my old computer, which is where this update is coming from. I'm enjoying it so far - I like the Enlightenment theme much better than anything in Windows.

At work, we have this computer named Perseus, which we use for development. That is, we use it to test whatever programs we are working on. Well, Thursday, after over 70 days of continuous uptime, I managed to crash it. I tried to send >170 megabytes of data over a socket to itself, which it didn't like very much, for obvious reasons. Tonight we had a corporate Christmas party, which was pretty fun. Its nice to hang out with people from work, since I rarely do that.

Apparently, a girl I knew in middle school stumbled upon my site (see the comments in the previous post). That's always fun. Mindy, if you are reading this, I remember you. We were in Mrs. Shelburn's (sp?) class together, right? Anyway, I'm still in touch with Mike Pucci, if you remember him.

Well, there were certainly some other things that happened this week. Mostly I played a lot of Shenmue. Maybe I'll post some more later.
